Divorce Mediation vs. Litigation – It’s Just Like Voting
If you haven’t been under a rock for the past 20 months, you know that tomorrow is Election Day here in the United States and we will be choosing a new president. After all the primaries, speeches, commercials and debates, in a matter of a few short days (we hope) we will know who the next President of the United States will be. Regardless of who you are voting for, you may be asking yourself – what exactly does this have to do with divorce mediation? Well, if you ask me, they are a lot alike.
First, like with voting, you have a choice. Do I choose the more efficient, family friendly and cost-effective route of divorce mediation or do I choose the contentious, expensive and destructive route of litigation? And while there are so many obvious benefits to mediation, some people do choose litigation as their route and for that, we have to respect them. However, mediation is my candidate of choice and I hope yours too.
Second, knowledge is key. When we vote, we hope to make an informed choice, spending time learning about each candidates position on issues and making a determination that their views are in line with our own. There is much to know about divorce mediation and spending time learning about the issues covered during mediation sessions and the positions taken will go a long way to determining which way you choose. We know once you learn about mediation you’ll agree it truly is the smarter way to divorce
And last, there is the promise of a brighter future. Sure each candidate professes their love of country and the promise of a better tomorrow but after all we’ve gone through, aren’t we all just a little bit skeptical? While you’re in the middle of an emotional time like a divorce, it doesn’t seem like you’re ever going to realize that brighter tomorrow and that no one is there to listen or care. Some might say just like the government.
Well, we at Equitable Mediation Services couldn’t disagree more. I would never tell you who to vote for because that choice is up to you but when it comes to your divorce, you do have a choice and that choice should be divorce mediation. Let us prove it to you with a free, no obligation consultation in your own home or one of our six area office in central New Jersey. And while we can’t promise you lower taxes or universal health care (wouldn’t that be nice) we can promise to listen and be with you every step of the way to make sure that you and your family are treated with the respect and dignity you deserve.
