Cost Effective Divorce Mediation in NJ

One of the interesting things about writing a blog is that you’re always looking for story ideas and so topics that may not have appeared “story-worthy” before suddenly become interesting. Take this one for example… During a recent search on Google, I found a website claiming to help you file for divorce for $299. $299 – what a bargain! But do you really know the true cost of what you’re getting into? Your divorce is one of the largest and most important financial transactions that you will ever participate in (probably only second to the purchase of a home) and so to spend $299 on it, seems a bit shady to me. Divorce is a tricky game and the decisions and agreements made during a time of incredible duress, will impact you and your family for the rest of your lives. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I would think you’d want someone to talk to, confide in, get advice from and assist you to navigate the complex issues and choices you will be faced with. Not a form on a website claiming to cost you only $299.
In these tough economic times, many couples aren’t even going ahead with their divorce because they say they can’t afford it. Can’t afford it? When I hear that I say to myself they obviously don’t know about divorce mediation in New Jersey. Divorce mediation is an affordable and preferred alternative to attorney driven divorces here in Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer and Hunterdon counties as well as in locations all over the state of NJ. Most couples who use a mediator can save (and this comes straight from Forbes magazine, a pretty trustworthy source if you ask me) $20,000 or more when they use a divorce mediator to handle their divorce. We at Equitable Mediation Services can tell you that divorce mediation works and leads to better agreements, measurable cost savings and less stress in what is most certainly an emotional time for everyone involved.
If you’re not sure that you can afford to get divorced, I understand as times are tough for everyone. Please just promise me one thing: resist the temptation to file for a $299 divorce through a website. You may have saved yourself money in the short run, but I can guarantee you’ll be paying for it for a very long time and suddenly, that $299 will look like a total waste of money. If you have any questions for us to see if divorce mediation is right for you, please feel free to drop us a line and we’d be happy to see if we can help.
